Amma's Programs in New York City, USA

11-13 July 2007. Amma held three days of public programs at the Manhattan Center in Mid-Town Manhattan, New York City. .

Amma was welcomed by Commissioner Linares from the Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs for the City of New York. He read aloud a proclamation from Mayor Michael Bloomberg: ".... from providing Tsunami relief to building homes for the poor to providing vital resources to widows and abused women to simply providing comfort to those who need it most you have made a difference for so many grateful men and women all across the globe. I join all New Yorkers in thanking you for your important work."

S.K. Guha, Senior Program Director at UNIFEM, the United Nations Development Fund for Women also addressed the gathered crowd: "My tribute, my salutations to Mata who brings together an amazing confluence of spirituality of love of service to humanity and unity of all faiths. Mata Amritanandamayi is a source of great inspiration."

Mr. Olara Otunnu, former Under Secretary General of the United Nations in Charge of children and armed conflicts noted:"... all I can say is that Amma’s example and power demonstrates what positive force, what positive spiritual force of love compassion and service can do to transform individuals, societies and our world and we in New York can certainly do with that. Thank you Amma for being here."

Amma was garlanded by Ms. Deena Merriam, founder of the Global Peace Initiative of Women and by Mr. Christopher Stamos, President of Sterling Stamos Corporate Philanthropy and the Sterling Stamos Global Institute.

Carolina Korkova, one of the top fashion models in the world today, also came to see Amma.
