A 360-degree view of Mata Amritanandamayi Ashram, Amritapuri.Looking northward from the top of the 18-storey tall flats in the Ashram. To the left is the Arabian Sea, to the right, the Kayamkulam Backwaters. In between is the Alappad Island on which the Ashram is located. The island is 17.5 km in length with the Ashram at the midpoint. Alappad is joined to the mainland only by a single road bridge to the south (not shown), and the Amrita Setu footbridge in Amritapuri (also not shown). All around, one can see lush groves of coconut trees with crows and Brahminy Kites circling overhead
To the north-east are the boy's hostels of Amrita University, the Biotechnology Center building, with the main campus of the Engineering College behind. Looking eastward from the backwaters is the canal to central Vallikavu located on the mainland. To the southeast on the mainland is the Ayurvedic College, followed by a southward view of the Backwaters, Peninsula, and Arabian Sea. Southeast on the Peninsula is the top of the Ayurvedic Research Center.
